Tour bus driver fired after Kailua confrontation

KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The tour bus driver who was caught on video threatening a Kailua resident was fired from 808 Trans on Sunday, days after Hawaii News Now broke the story.

The confrontation, between the driver and a woman, began over a law that bans tour companies from bringing visitors to Kailua Beach Park. The driver had just brought the visitors to the park when a woman yells, "You're not supposed to be here!"

The driver responded by threatening the woman and cursing.

The owner of 808 Trans says Kailua residents had yelled at the driver before, and used racial slurs toward Japanese tourists.

The company added, "We cannot condone his behavior for threatening and saying racial slurs to the lady who confronted him."

City Councilman Ikaika Anderson says the woman in the video is right about the law. He wrote the legislation that bans tour companies from making stops around Kailua Beach Park, Lanikai and Kalama Beach Park.
