'Bows top Mountaineers to open four-game home series

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii baseball team won their series-opening game against West Virginia on Thursday, holding on to an early lead to fend off the Mountaineers for a 4-1 victory at Les Murakami Stadium.

In his third start of the season, UH pitcher Brendan Hornung helped keep the West Virginia offense in check, allowing just four hits through seven innings.

Shortstop Jacob Sheldon-Collins batted in two runs for the 'Bows, who improved to 5-5 on the season.

The Rainbow Warriors and Mountaineers return to action on Friday at 6:35 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium for the second in the four-game series.
