HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawai'i junior Skye Inakoshi earned the Big West Men's Golfer of the Month award for February following his win at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate two weeks ago.
The junior from Honolulu, O'ahu, became the school's first individual champion in a full-field event in five years and the first UH champion of the Burns Intercollegiate after finishing in a four-way tie for first. Inakoshi, who fired back-to-back rounds of 69, shot 6-under 210 and led the field with 20 birdies.
In capturing medalist honors, Inakoshi bested or tied 15 golfers ranked in the Top 150, including five in the Top 50 on the 6,991-yard par-72 Wailua Golf Course.
The last UH golfer to win a full-field tournament was T.J Kua at the Kaua'i Intercollegiate in 2011. Inakoshi is UH's first Big West Men's Golfer of the Month award winner.
Earlier in the month, Inakoshi was UH's top finisher at the Amer Ari Invitational, where he tied for 42nd with an even par score of 216. The Mid-Pacific Institute graduate currently leads the team with a 72.0 scoring average.
