SAND ISLAND, OAHU (HAWAIINEWSNOW) -

A Sand Island area warehouse was destroyed in an early-morning fire Saturday.

Twenty-four emergency companies and 70 personnel responded shortly after midnight to find a large commercial warehouse, engulfed in flames, off Sand Island Access Rd. Two businesses which occupied the warehouse, Erik Builders and Niu Nursery, were impacted by the blaze.

"It's bad, terrible because everything burned. Records and all that, all our equipment, buildings, paperwork," said Jimmy Sakata, owner of Erik Builders.

Officials say the fire was difficult to suppress due to limited fire hydrant access and secured gates surrounding the warehouse.

Kapiolani Barber of Nanakuli Housing Corporation and Baseyard Hawaii leases the building next door. Her property didn't sustain any damage thanks to the night guard on duty who stepped in to help before fire crews arrived.

"He got the water hose going and he started hosing down a portion of our building," Barber said.

No one was inside the warehouse at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

"It's really sad," said Barber. "These are mom and pop businesses that have been around for a long long time so its devastating."

Owners tell Hawaii News Now they won't be defeated and plan to rebuild in the future.

"The lucky part is nobody got hurt," Sakata said.

The fire was contained around 2:30 a.m. The cause is still being investigated.
