WAIMEA BAY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The search for a possible missing swimmer near Waimea Bay has been called off Thursday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard said it suspended the search with no clues or new information to suggest that someone was actually missing.
Authorities initially received a report Wednesday around 5:20 p.m. from a beachgoer who saw a silhouette of a swimmer in the water past the shorebreak. The silhouette then disappeared in the water near the jump rock, the beachgoer said.
The Coast Guard used its helicopter and plane to search for the possible missing swimmer.
