HALAWA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 50-year-old man was taken into custody after a five-hour standoff with officers on Tuesday night, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Police said the barricade situation unfolded around 8 p.m. at the Puuwai Momi Apartment complex. Authorities responded to reports that a man was arguing and threatening a family member with a gun. Upon entry, officers determined there were no family members inside but the man refused to communicate with anyone.
Police say the man was suicidal and on crystal methamphetamine. He was taken in for a mental health observation and treatment at the Queen's Medical Center.
