The Hawaiian Word of the Day is "oopu."
Oopu is a general name for fish of the goby family, which include both fresh and saltwater varieties. More commonly known as the Stimpson's goby, one freshwater species of oopu is endemic to Hawaii, that is, it is found nowhere else in the world, which makes it particularly vulnerable to extinction. Juvenile goby move from saltwater streams into freshwater streams, where they live until they reach adulthood.
