HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Classic Hawaii trade wind weather today, but just for today.

Winds will be northeast at 10-20 mph. Morning showers will fall mainly on windward and mauka neighborhoods. Then a mostly sunny day, particularly for leeward areas.

High in Honolulu will be 82 degrees.

An approaching cold front will shut off the trades by Saturday morning. Winds will be light and variable and the heat will seem more intense. The front will move across our island state Sunday. Winds will start southwesterly that morning and swing to westerly, then northerly by evening. Sunday will have more clouds and showers. A stretch of cool and dry weather will start on Monday.

Surf is down all around today. The National Weather Service forecast calls for 5-8 feet north, 3-5 feet east and west, 1-3 feet south. Large, warning-sized NW swells are expected late Sunday and again late Wednesday.

Small Craft Advisory for Pailolo and Alenuihaha channels, along with coastal waters west and south of the Big Island.
