The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team squares off against UC Davis in a Big West battle this Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are currently tied for second place in the conference with identical 8-3 BWC records. It will be a "Pink-Out" game recognizing breast cancer awareness, as well as Military Appreciation Night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Hawai'i has been on a roll, winning its last five-straight games to raise its overall record to 15-9. Senior Destiny King continues to lead the Rainbow Wahine with 10.3 points per game, 60 assists and 26 steals. King is also second on the team averaging 5.9 rebounds per game. When the chips have been down late in the game, King has emerged as the team leader refusing to let her team lose.
Sophomore center Megan Huff has also been solid in the post for the 'Bows. Huff has seen action in all 24 games thus far and she has started the last four straight games. During those four games, amped up her game, averaging 10.75 points and 8.75 rebounds per game. In UH's game last week against Long Beach State ( Feb. 11), Huff recorded career-highs with 18 points and 16 rebounds in her third double-double performance of the season.
Hawai'i and UC Davis already played once earlier this year with the Aggies winning at home at the Pavilion, 60-58 on Jan. 9. In that game, the Rainbow Wahine finished with a season-high 11 treys (11-22-.500%) and were led by senior Ashleigh Karaitiana (15pts, 5-10 3pt FGs, four rebounds) and freshman Olivia Crawford, who netted a career-high 12 points, three treys, four rebounds). But, for just the second time this season, the 'Bows were out-rebounded by an opponent, with UCD pulling down 35 boards to UH's 28. UH led by as many as 11-points after draining five more treys in the third period alone, but the Aggies answered back with a remarkable 19-7 run that carried them all the way through the fourth quarter to take a four-point lead with just 33-seconds left.
