LANIKAI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - When the city said they'd enforce a parking ban in Lanikai over the President's Day weekend, they weren't kidding.
Some 296 citations were issued over the three days.
Of the citations, 231 were for illegal parking. The remaining 65 were for traffic violations and for violating park rules.
Meanwhile, police said two vehicles were towed. One was parked in a tow-away zone. The other was blocking a driveway.
The parking ban on all streets in Lanikai was instituted as part of a pilot project aimed at easing congestion and ensuring emergency access.
Did it work?
Police said over the three-day weekend, there were 12 parking-related complaints made by people who called 911. On typical weekends, there are 30 to 40.
