KALIHI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hundreds of customers in the Kalihi area lost power on Tuesday morning, the Hawaiian Electric Company said.
HECO crews are currently on scene near the Oahu Community Correctional Center to make repairs. The Honolulu Fire Department also responded to an explosion on one of the power lines around 6 a.m.
As of 7:40 a.m., about 100 customers were still without power. The Hawaii News Now station was among one of approximately 600 customers in the area that initially lost power for about 15 minutes. Honolulu police said traffic lights were also out at some intersections.
It's not clear what exactly caused the outage, but HECO said it is investigating.
