KAAAWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Crews have repaired a stretch of Kamehameha Highway in Kaaawa damaged by big waves.
A portion of the roadway crumbled because of erosion, while big surf also took out a guardrail.
State Department of Transportation crews worked through the weekend to fix the stretch of North Shore roadway. In the meantime, traffic in the area had been contraflowed using the one remaining lane.
Both lanes of the highway reopened about 12:30 p.m.
Crews will need to return to the area Tuesday and Wednesday, from 8 30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping and guardrail work.
