HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It may not have ended the way thay wanted, but the Rainbow Wahine softball team began its 2016 campaign with a 4-1 overall performance in the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic.
After defeating Missouri-Kansas City in Saturday morning's semifinal, by a score of 5-0, the Wahine lost to Ole Miss, 6-5, in the afternoon's final match.
"This game [against Ole Miss], they sort of showed us that we're not ready for the big time every day," said Coolen. "It was a great series, 4-1, I'll take it. Some of the players really stepped it up, they have a good base right now. Other players are still trying to find themselves."
Hawaii held a three-run lead in the seventh inning, but a home run by the Rebels' Alex Schneider tied the game at 5 and sent the game to extra innings. Ashton Lampton singled up the middle, driving in a run and the winning margin for Ole Miss, who leave Hawaii as tournament champions.
