Aqua-Aston Hospitality responds to charges of worker intimidation
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A National Labor Relations Board is investigating Local 5 charges of worker intimidation at the Aston Waikiki and the Hotel Renew.
Aqua-Aston Hospitality has a proud legacy as a top employer in Hawaii. So far, there has not been any judicial decision by the NLRB that Aqua-Aston has violated any federal labor law.
Aqua-Aston has recently filed a petition for an election in order to enable their employees to vote in a secret ballot election conducted by the NLRB as provided under Federal law, and UNITE HERE! Local 5 refused to consent to an election. A secret ballot election is the fairest process for Aqua-Aston employees and is the process prescribed by federal law.
Aqua-Aston has filed a few unfair labor practice charges against UNITE HERE! Local 5 which are currently being investigated by the NLRB. The NLRB has already filed one complaint against UNITE HERE! Local 5 for unlawfully coercing Aqua-Aston employees and interfering with their rights not to join the union. That hearing is currently scheduled for April.
