Big Island police seek man wanted for questioning in connection with shooting

Big Island police are searching for a 29-year-old man wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting in Honolii on Jan. 31.

Scottie Yanagawa, who police say is armed and dangerous, is also wanted for escaping from the Hale Nani correctional facility on Nov. 19.

Yanagawa is described as 5’5”, approximately 225 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Police said he may now be clean shaven.

On Jan. 31, police responded to several reports of gunshots in Honolii. Officers learned that a 31-year-old man from Kona was also taken to the hospital following the shooting. The victim is still recovering at a hospital on Oahu.
