Business Report: The economics of Valentine's Day

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Valentine's Day is one of the two busiest days for fine dining restaurants. The other is Mother's Day.

On Mother's Day they get whole families ordering off the regular menu. On Valentine's Day restaurants do special menus and rent extra tables for two, because you don't want an intimate dinner for two at a conference table.

Valentine's Day is an occasion for many Californians to take short trips to Hawaii. Especially this year, when the actual day happens on a Sunday. A long weekend here beats all the flowers and chocolates in the world.

A newer trend is people timing proposals and actual weddings for Valentine's Day, and Hawaii benefits from that because some romantic locations are too cold in February.
