Tennis tournament hosts to get refurbished courts

KEAUHOU, Hawaii (AP) - The Old Kona Airport Park tennis courts will be refurbished in a partnership between Hawaii County and the United States Tennis Association.

West Hawaii Today reports over 2,000 fans filled the Holua Tennis Center on Saturday to see U.S. star Sloane Stephens and Poland's Madga Linette compete as part of the Fed Cup USTA tournament. Plans to refurbish the courts are tied to the Fed Cup tradition of impacting host communities.

USTA Chairman of the Board, CEO and President Katrina Adams says Hawaii is a fantastic tennis town that supports the organization's mission of growing the sport.

USTA Hawaii Pacific Section executive director Ron Romano says details are evolving, but Kailua-Kona is getting refurbished courts, new lighting and three child-friendly courts.

A grand opening is expected in November.
