The coolest temperatures so far this season will settle over the islands for Super Bowl Sunday in the wake of a cold front that should clear the Big Island today. Daytime temperatures in the 70s will feel even cooler, thanks to low humidity and gusty northerly winds. Those winds will shift more northeasterly and diminish a bit Monday, but keep the sweater and extra blanket ready.
Because of the winds, a Wind Advisory is in effect for Lanai and the north, east, and Kohala areas of the Big Island. A High Wind Warning is posted for the summit areas of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. And for mariners, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect for Hawaiian waters.
At the beach, a High Surf Advisory is up for north and west shores of Niihau and Kauai, and the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui thanks to a combination of the strong winds and a northwest swell.
