HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The strong northeasterly winds and a rising northwest swell will bring advisory-level surf to the islands through Tuesday.
A High Surf Advisory is in effect for north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai, and north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui. The advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service said surf along north and west shores will be between 12 to 16 feet.
Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.
