HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii presents its annual Chinatown New Year's Celebration event at Chinatown Cultural Plaza (100 N. Beretania St.) on Friday, Feb. 5 from 5 to 10 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature more than 30 vendors, including many food and craft booths. There also will be live entertainment, including by comedian Frank De Lima, special cultural performances, lion and dragon dances, lion dancing on poles, and more.
2016 Narcissus Queen Ashley Fu and her court, along with various lion dance groups, also will be visiting stores in Chinatown to wish them good luck for the new year as part of a traditional New Year's blessing known as Choy Cheng on Feb. 5 from 6 to 9 p.m. This year, Chinese New Year is on Feb. 8, and 2016 is the year of the Monkey.
