A Big Island man who set his house on fire with his family still inside has been charged with arson and other offenses.
The fire happened Tuesday in Ocean View.
On Thursday morning, Big Island police charged James M. Thomas, 38, with first-degree arson, first-degree terroristic threatening and four counts of second-degree reckless endangering.
His bail was set at $64,000 and he remains in a Kona police cellblock, pending his initial court appearance Friday.
Police said the fire on the 92-8200 block of Bamboo Lane in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates was started about 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Two women and two teenage boys were at home when the fire started. They were uninjured.
The damages were estimated at $145,000.
The Hawaii Red Cross is assisting the family.
