WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Filming for the CBS drama “Hawaii Five-0” will require crews to close a portion of Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki overnight starting Thursday.

The following traffic information was released by the City and County of Honolulu:

Starting at 8 p.m. the following traffic modifications will occur:

  • The two makai lanes of Kalakaua Avenue between Saratoga Road and Lewers Street will be closed along with the bike lane.
  • Saratoga Road will remain open in both directions. Drivers will be able to make a right turn from Kalakaua Avenue onto Saratoga Road. Drivers heading mauka-bound on Saratoga Road must go forward, crossing Kalakaua Avenue.
  • Beachwalk Road will be accessible from Kalia Road, heading in the mauka-bound direction. A contraflow lane will be setup.
  • Lewers Street will temporarily change to allow travel in both directions to help traffic flow through the area. A contraflow lane will be setup.
  • TheBus will not be detoured and will travel along its normal routes.

Starting at 9 p.m. a third lane on Kalakaua Avenue will be closed, leaving the mauka-most travel lane open for drivers who must pass through the area.

Starting at 10 p.m. through 3 a.m. intermittent traffic control will be conducted in the mauka-bound travel lane of Kalakaua Avenue, even though most businesses in the area are closed. Drivers will be asked to wait for a few minutes while a complicated shot for a visual effect is done, then traffic will be released in the one mauka-bound lane and allowed to flow until the next shot is set up.

Drivers should avoid this area and take alternate routes.
