KAILUA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A visitor from New York was airlifted out of the Bamboo Forest Trail on Maui after slipping on a rock in the stream Monday afternoon, the Maui Fire Department said.
MFD said the 30-year-old was with a larger group of hikers who were on their way down the trail when she lost her footing and injured her ankle.
Firefighters responded around 2:40 p.m. and hiked about 20 minutes to get to her. A fire department helicopter airlifted the woman to a pasture landing zone near the Hana Highway where she was then transferred to paramedics.
The 30-year-old was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment. It's not clear how severe her injuries were.
No other injuries were reported.
