Forecast: On-and-off trade winds for work week

Forecast: On-and-off trade winds for work week

Weather should be partly cloudy to mostly sunny for Monday, with just a few more clouds mainly windward with perhaps a few light showers. Showers may increase in intensity mainly for Maui and the Big Island Monday night and Tuesday morning, but rainfall totals should still be light. The trade winds will diminish and become light and variable before returning Tuesday and Wednesday.

This week's winds may get interesting as a series of cold fronts pass quickly north of the islands, disrupting the trades as they come and go. The overall weather should be nice until Friday, when a strong cold front approaches the islands. It could bring some rain and windy conditions by Saturday, with cool north to northeast winds for Super Bowl Sunday. Stay tuned.

High Surf Advisory and Small Craft Advisory will take effect at midnight for the latest northwest swell, although this one won't be anywhere near as big as the last one.
