South Korean man charged in connection with stabbing at Big Island resort

A South Korean visitor was charged Thursday with three offenses in connection with a stabbing at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, Big Island police said.

Police on Wednesday arrested Kyoung Sun Yoo, 59, for allegedly stabbing a 52-year-old South Korean man while in the hotel room with a 52-year-old South Korean woman.

The stabbing victim remains at the North Hawaii Community in stable condition after being treated for puncture wounds to his chest and thigh. Meanwhile, the woman was released after being treated for a head injury.

Yoo has been charged with first-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family or household member, authorities said.

His bail was set at $8,000.

He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Friday.
