Under a one-time policy exemption, the city will allow alcohol to be served at Queen’s Beach on Friday and Saturday in conjunction with Pro Bowl festivities.

The city denied a request to allow alcohol at other special events up to four times a year.

In a news release, the city said alcohol can be served at the Pro Bowl event at Queen’s Beach as long as event organizers get all proper permits from the Honolulu Liquor Commission.

Organizers will also have to ensure adequate security is at the event, and that alcohol isn’t sold to minors.

The city Department of Parks and Recreation held a public hearing on January 8 to get input on a proposed rule change that would allow alcohol at Queen’s Beach during special events.

“DPR considered and found valid comments on both sides,” the city news release said. “After reviewing all the testimony, DPR has decided not to go forward with the rules as drafted at this time.”

The Pro Bowl festivities at Queen’s Beach run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The event is free, and will features NFL players, entertainment, and food.
