Forecast: Vog makes a comeback

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Calm, cool and dry as we get underway with our Tuesday.

Winds will be light and variable with sea breezes developing this afternoon.

Convective heating will create a few clouds and showers over interior neighborhoods after lunchtime.

Volcanic haze will start creeping into our skies and get increasingly thick as each day passes. Relief will come in the form of trade winds, but not until Sunday, maybe Monday.

High in Honolulu today will be 82 degrees.

The northwest swell is dropping. The National Weather Service says waves will start the day at 18 to 24 feet for north shores and 12 to 16 feet for west shores, and be smaller by afternoon. East and south shores will be 2 to 4 feet today.

A new and very large northwest swell will roll in tomorrow with waves forecast to reach 35 to 45 feet for north shores and 24 to 30 feet for west shores.

A High Surf Advisory has been posted for north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai, north shores of Maui and west shores of the Big Island.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for most Hawaii waters due to large open ocean swells.
