The ripple effect of Winter Storm Jonas is being felt by travelers in Hawaii.

On Saturday, more than 5,000 flights were canceled nationwide and over 4,600 flights were delayed.

"I came out here just for a week and it's going to be a little longer than a week now,” John Schofield said, after his flight from Honolulu to Baltimore was canceled.

"We're just waiting to see when we can get back,” he said.

James Moody and his wife, Susan, are trying to get home to West Virginia. Their flight from Honolulu to Pittsburgh was also canceled. Now, instead of having just one layover, the couple will have to make three stops before reaching their final destination Sunday night.

"We fly to San Francisco to Portland to Chicago to Pittsburgh," said James Moody.

American Airlines and United Airlines issued travel waivers allowing passengers to change flights without paying a fee.

Schofield said it's all about having patience at this point.

"You can’t control the weather and just hope you can make do,” he said. "A lot more worse places to be than Honolulu during a snow storm, so if I can be in 80 degree weather or back there in 2 feet of snow I guess I’ll pick this for now."

Airline officials are warning passengers flying out Sunday to prepare for more disruptions in the northeast. Be sure to check your flight status with your airline before heading to the airport.
