The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team defeated UC Irvine, 83-65, Thursday night at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif. UH improves to a 10-8, 3-2 Big West record, extending to a five-game winning streak over the Anteaters, who drop to a 3-16, 0-5 BWC record.

UH dominated the Anteaters across the stat line, finishing the game shooting at 46.2 percent from the field (30-65), and outrebounding UCI, 52-27, holding them to just nine offensive rebounds total, while reaching for 19.

Sophomore Megan Huff led the Rainbow Wahine, tying with UCI's Shereen Sutherland for a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, seniors Ashleigh Karaitiana and Marissa Wimbley added 11 points apiece for UH, both going three-for-six from three-point range.

Although the Anteaters were able to build an early 9-5 lead over UH in the first quarter, the Rainbow Wahine quickly broke away off of an 18-0 run for a 27-11 advantage to follow. UCI was finally able to stop UH's run  with a layup with 37 seconds left, but UH cemented a 29-15 lead to end the first.

From their significant 18-point run, the Rainbow Wahine never looked back, riding momentum into the second, going into half time on top, 45-33.

UCI eventually cut the 'Bows' lead down to just eight points (47-39) in the third, but UH quickly answered back to reclaim a comfortable advantage at 57-39 with 3:53 left in the period and never looked back.

UH next heads to CSUN for a rematch against the Matadors, Jan. 23 at 4:00 p.m. PT at the Matadome. The 'Bows will return next week to host CS Fullerton, Jan. 28 and UC Irvine, Jan. 30.
