HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire in Kahaluu last week made his first appearance in court on Monday.

Bobby Young Townsend has been charged for second-degree attempted murder and other offenses including arson, terroristic threatening and resisting arrest.

Townsend is being held on $1 million bail.

Witnesses say 25-year-old Townsend and his girlfriend, Leilani Parado, were arguing in a van when he allegedly doused her with gasoline and set her on fire.

Parado remains hospitalized as she suffers from second degree burns on her arms, legs and back.

Townsend has a criminal record and had just gotten out of jail 12 days prior to the incident.
