MAALAEA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Maui firefighters are fighting a brush fire by air, and so far flames have burned about 80 acres.

Fire crews responded to the brush fire in Maalaea about 2:11 p.m.

The fire is on the mauka side of Honoapiilani Highway, and is burning towards the Kaheawa wind farm but has not reached it.

The blaze is burning steep mountainous terrain, and so is being fought with water drops from two helicopters.

Fire officials said the blaze is slow-moving, and isn't threatening any structures.

The blaze required officials to briefly close the highway Thursday afternoon, but it has since been reopened.
