No tsunami threat to Hawaii following 6.9 quake off coast of Mexico

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A large earthquake struck an area off the coast of Mexico, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.9-magnitude quake, which hit around 8:10 a.m. HST, was located about 150 miles southwest of Tomatlan, Mexico.

No damages or injuries were immediately reported.
