HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Crews will be conducting maintenance work on two runways at the Honolulu International Airport starting this week, meaning more air traffic noise is possible for some communities, the state Department of Transportation said.

The DOT will temporary close Runway 4R-22L on Thursday and Friday nights from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. for pavement work. Meanwhile, Runway 8R/26L will be closed for maintenance work on Jan. 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m.

During these closures, flights will be redirected to other operational runways, altering the flight paths. This may also increase noises over the Ewa Plains and downtown Honolulu areas, the DOT said.

Work may need to be rescheduled depending on the weather.
