As the Kaneohe-Kailua Sewer Tunnel passes the halfway point, the City & County has awarded a $150 million contract for the second phase of Kaneohe-Kailua Wastewater Conveyance & Treatment Facilities Project.

The contract for the Kailua Tunnel Influent Pump Station (TIPS) was awarded to Hensel Phelps, a firm with experience in wastewater project construction across the country.

Hensel Phelps will be responsible for constructing the TIPS within the Kailua tunnel shaft. Once commissioned, it will pull wastewater from the tunnel to the Kailua Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project also includes construction of a generator building, headworks and odor control facilities.

The final product will provide improved handling of Windward Oahu sewage.
