Kaiser Permanente physicians and employees volunteer during annual day of service

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day hundreds of Kaiser Permanente employees across the state spent the day participating in the clinic’s 11th Annual Day of Service.

“Its an opportunity to get down and dirty for the communities and to love on people in a different way,” said Alean Cook-Palmer, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii MD.

Volunteers participated in six different events on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.

On Oahu volunteers worked in the Waianae and Heeia ahupuaa where they restored loi kalo, planted trees and cleared mangrove from a traditional Hawaiian fishpond.

“We care for people in our offices and in our air condition and this is a way for us to reconnect with the land, the communities and partnerships as well,” Cook-Palmer said.

Cook-Palmer also said that the volunteer opportunity allows for Kaiser Permanente physicians and employees to strengthen their relationships with the community.
