HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Aspiring firefighters at two Hawaii community colleges now have the opportunity to practice what they learn in class with the real thing.

Honolulu Fire Department donated two retired fire engines to Honolulu Community College and Hawaii Community College on Thursday.

Students in the Fire and Environmental Emergency Response program like Sydney Price will now get the chance to use and practice with equipment they'll utilize in their prospective occupation after graduation.

"I think it's awesome because even for other classes we haven't had the correct equipment all the time, so sometimes doing skills is a little more difficult, but this is definitely going to be a big help," Price said.

Fire science is one of Honolulu CC's most popular majors, with 187 students last year.  The program averages roughly 200 students a year.
