HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Oscar Nominations came out early this morning. "The Revenant" picked up best picture, best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and best director nods. "The Revenant drew 12 nominations in total which was the most of any film.
'Mad Max: Fury Road' also picked up those same nominations of best picture and best director nods; they got 10 nominations in all, but a lot of those were in the technical areas. "The Martian" got 7 nominations, including one for Matt Damon.
The Nominations for Best Picture are: The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight.
There were also some Oscar snubs. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," nabbed 5 nominations...but not best picture. "Black Mass" was supposed to be Johnny Depp's big comeback. Quentin Tarantino got nothing for "The Hateful Eight."
Also this is the second year in a row Oscar voters put forth an all-white field of acting nominees. The Academy will almost certainly face some blowback for it's selections.
