The Aloha Stadium will raise its parking rates effective Thursday, according to officials.

It’ll now cost $7 per car/pickup truck to park for regular stadium events, including University of Hawaii football games, Hawaiian cultural and music events, and high school football games. That's a $2 increase from the previous $5 per car/pickups for UH games and Hawaiian events, and a $4 increase from the previous $3 per car/pickup truck to attend high school games at the stadium.

Professional sports events, including the NFL Pro Bowl, and concerts will cost $15 per car/pickup, a $5 increase.

The price will be $30 for passenger buses, limousines and trucks (non-pickups), also a $5 increase. The rate takes into account the size of the vehicle and number of spaces the vehicle takes up in the parking lot.

The only rate that stays the same is for those who attend the Swap Meet and Marketplace. Parking will cost $1 per person, not per vehicle, for those 12 and older. It’s free for those 11 years and under.

Aloha Stadium's Deputy Manager, Lois Manin, said the rates are then set to gradually increase by $1 in both 2018 and 2020.

Manin said the authority had requested the rate hikes in order to keep up with rising operational costs for the 40-year-old facility and to bring the parking fees in line with similar entertainment venues, such as the Neal Blaisdell Center, which charges $6 to $7 and UH Manoa's Stan Sheriff Center at $6.

Manin said there was a public hearing on the rate proposal in October of 2015. The authority later approved it, followed by Gov. David Ige.
