Firefighters rescue woman at Rainbow Falls

HILO, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Firefighters rescued a woman in her 20s in Hilo after she and a friend jumped 80 feet off Rainbow Falls on Tuesday afternoon.

Good Samaritans swam to the women to assist them before a helicopter arrived and airlifted them to safety.

Dave Swords, a witness to the incident says the first woman jumped in successfully. But the second woman jumped in at a poor angle and landed on her back.

A fire department helicopter crew transported the woman from the falls to a safe landing zone, where she was then transported to Hilo Medical Center. There are currently no reports on her condition.
