PEARL CITY, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

An agreement was reached between the city and the West Loch Fairways Community Association on Monday that opened up a section of the West Loch bike path in West Oahu.

Under the agreement, warning signs that restricted 1,600 feet of the bike path will soon be coming down, allowing riders to travel all the way to Aloha Stadium. The 1,600 foot stretch was previously listed as private property.

"We have perfect weather for bike riding all year long," said Mayor Caldwell. "Now, with this agreement in place, both kids and adults can use this bike path to get some exercise, or connect to where they're going."

The once-disputed bike path is part of a larger plan by the city and state to create the Leeward Bike Path, which will eventually stretch uninterrupted from West O'ahu to past Pearl Harbor.

The path will now be maintained by the city.
