HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A large earthquake shook an area of Indonesia on Monday, but was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat for the Hawaiian islands, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The quake, which struck at around 6:40 a.m. HST, was located near Kepulauan Talaud. It was initially measured at a magnitude of 6.9, PTWC said.

It’s not clear at this point if the quake caused any damages or injuries.
