HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A High Surf Warning has been downgraded to a High Surf Advisory for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and the north-facing shores of Maui.

The High Surf Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu expected north shore surf of 15 to 20 feet, and 9 to 12-foot waves for west shores.

Surf is expected to diminish Tuesday evening.

Ocean water may occasionally sweep across beaches, with very strong breaking waves and strong rip currents. Breaking waves may also impact harbors, which may make it dangerous to navigate harbor channels.

Beachgoers, surfers and surfers should heed all advice from ocean safety lifeguards.
