HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A new northwest swell will spread across most of the Hawaiian islands, bringing advisory-level surf by the afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for north shores of Maui as well as north and west shores of Kauai, Niihau, Oahu and Molokai. The High Surf Advisory is in effect from 12 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Forecasters said surf will build to 8 to 16 feet along these shores starting in the afternoon through the evening.

Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.
