Mayor Kirk Caldwell unveiled a new playground at Nuuanu Valley Neighborhood Park on Thursday as part of his plan to refurbish dozens of parks and playgrounds on the island.

Mayor Caldwell announced his plan last year in his State of the City Address to refurbish 24 park comfort stations and 16 playgrounds within one year.

With just two months remaining in Mayor Caldwell's plan to refurbish dozens of parks, the city has successfully restored 22 comfort stations and 10 playgrounds.

The city also built 13 brand new playgrounds around the island in 2015.

"We've made significant upgrades and are now on a solid path to complete even more of these projects," Mayor Caldwell said. "Our parks are our communities' front yards. I want to express the City's deep appreciation to the 280 groups and organizations that Adopt-a-Park and are passionate about keeping their parks in good shape."

Anyone wishing to 'Adopt-a-Park' can call the Department of Parks and Recreation at (808 768-3034.
