2 dead in separate pedestrian crashes in Waianae

WAIANAE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Authorities responded to two separate pedestrian accidents in Waianae this week, the first two traffic-related deaths of 2016, Honolulu police said.

An 84-year-old man died Thursday morning after he was hit by a car on Farrington Highway the day before, police said.

Officers said the man was struck near Puhano Street around 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead.

Speed or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

On Tuesday night, a 57-year-old woman was critically injured after she was hit by a car while crossing the road near the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Kaupuni Street around 11 p.m.

She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but died on Friday, authorities said.
