Lifeguards rescue swimmer on North Shore

SUNSET BEACH, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Lifeguards had to use a defibrillator to revive a swimmer who collapsed near Sunset Beach on Wednesday morning.

The swimmer, a male in his 60s, collapsed near the surf break known as "Monster Mush" near Ke Nui Road around 10:30 a.m.

He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Sources say the man is known in the area and regularly swims between Sunset and Ehukai beaches.

There is a high surf advisory posted and waves were about 12 to 15 feet.
