WAIKIKI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A water main break on Kalakaua Avenue affected traffic in Waikiki on Tuesday morning, but all lanes that were previously closed have been reopened and traffic is flowing smoothly again, according to Honolulu police.

The Board of Water Supply said the 8-inch main burst around 6 a.m., forcing police to close off lanes of Kalakaua Avenue, between Ala Moana Boulevard and Keoniana Street. Police had to later block off a portion of Ala Wai Boulevard, between Pau and Niu Streets, after water seeped over to that area. However, all lanes have since been reopened.

BWS crews are continuing to make repairs to the water main break that’s located in the same area as an ongoing construction project already blocking the far right lane of Kalakaua Avenue.

No customers have been affected by the break, according to a BWS spokesman.
