WAIALUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Police are investigating what they're calling a suspicious fire after a tractor and two smaller pieces of farm equipment at a Waialua Farm were set ablaze early Thursday morning.

The owner of TwinBridge Farms in Waialua, Derek Agader believes he was targeted because there has been friction with people opposed to the use of pesticides or GMO crops.

"We hate to call it a hate crime, but it just seems that there's no other way to put it," Agader said. "There's no motive for anything else but people who just don't agree with our practices."

Agader farms does use pesticides, but it is also raising some of its crops organically.

To prevent any future damage, the farm has moved its remaining farm equipment to a better lit area. They're also installing a new surveillance camera system.

Anyone with information is asked to call the HPD.
