A tip led police to more than a ton of illegal fireworks in Waipahu on Wednesday.

Earlier that day, police also cited a 44-year-old man in Kapalama for selling firecrackers to a plainclothes police officer who didn't have a valid permit.

Police are asking residents to report any suspicious or illegal fireworks activity in their neighborhoods.

Anyone found selling, possessing or using illegal fireworks could face up to five years in jail or a fine of up to $10,000.
