HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - We wanted to share with you a video Hawaiian Musician Kuana Torres Kahele posted on Facebook. It's a gathering chant for Laka.  It's the opening oli in Kuana's "Make Lei" video.  He posted this caption "a gathering chant I wrote seeking permission from Laka to pick and make lei."  You can catch Kuana performing Sunday, January 10 at the Hawaii Theatre.  It's an evening of Hawaiian music and hula to pay tribute to the Hawaiian Lei.

Hawane Rios shared some news on Facebook...posting this photo.  The caption reads "Likeke Teanio laying down guitar tracks for my CD in Waimea at Uncle Elmer Lims studio. So grateful to all the musicians, engineers, producers, and supporters of this collection of aloha 'aina music. From my heart to yours."

The Star Advertiser's Wayne Harada named his entertainers of the his final column of 2015. 
Star of the year: Ruthie Ann Miles. She won a Tony Award for best musical actress in a supporting role for her performance as Lady Thiang in "The King and I." The local girl is from Kaimuki.
Best male performer: Bruno Mars for his record- breaking performance of "Uptown Funk." It sat on top of the charts for 14 weeks and the music video was a YouTube sensation.
Best female performer: Amy Hanaialii....for returning to her stage roots in the Maui production of "Evita" and launching a wine bearing her name.

Speaking of Jake Shimabukuro, he just passed the two-million mark for listeners on Spotify.  On facebook he wrote "WOW! Thank you so much for streaming!!!! ?#‎YearinMusic".
